Never hike on the line, but always ride on the flatbed?

In such a difference from this viedo and your bio to modern day. I just hiked from the Dos Cabezas siding by the water tank all the way through tunnels 21 to tunnel 16 and Goat Canyon trestle and the railroad is completely abandon now. Any current attempts at rebuilding keep failing and the track is in awful shape with slides everywhere and tunnel 16 by the trestle having slides on both sides of the portals. Such a remote area the one thing that hasn't changed

With all the advanced technologies and equipment avaliable today we could build it faster and better than before if it wasn't for greedy people.

I have Muscular Dystrophy and 35 years ago when I could walk, a small group of us hiked in from the east to the Goat trestle bridge. Watching this brought back so many memories. Thank you.

These guys were living in a dream world trying to bring this line back to life. I could see if you had millions to throw into it, but they were far from that. And to repair it back to San Deigo threw Mexico which would have been easier than repairing the tunnel section. And those nice cars have been trashed by stupid kids 1:14 30 God knows why they left them up there. Those would have been the ones I would have brought down right away. But it's all a lost cause now all Bankrupt. I really don't know what these guys were thinking. Tourist trains never make enough money to begin with.

Oh yeah and I have one question what are they doing there like are they doing something to the tracks so all the trains can’t go there anymore or are they closing it or fixing it? And will this be the last train that goes on those tracks?

Why is it abandoned now? I wish It can come back.

Beautiful scenery, beginning to end. A steam locomotive with restored old style passenger wagons and this railroad could become a tourist attraction.

I have read so many articles about and seen so many pictures of this rail line and of the trestle - seeing this video is just pure gold! Thank goodness for RUclips. Almost as good as being there

I love railroad videos and tractor videos. I wish you could have got a lot of video of the tractors clearing the tracks. In recent years there's a lot of video of rock slides blocking the tracks proving that these tracks are no longer used by any railroads. Lots of people also love to build homemade rail carts to go on abandoned rail lines. The officially organized railroad sponsored groups that sponsor speeder outings has caused popularity to grow among homemade rail cart enthusiast who seek out abandoned lines to drive their homemade rail carts on. Some old abandoned rail lines are being ripped out and turned into hiking trails. The track can be left in place and serve a dual purpose for both hikers and rail cartists. It would be fantastic if the railroads what sponsor group outings for the rail cartists like they do for the official rail speeder groups.

It seems to me that hiking along the tracks is the safest way to hike into the gorge.

There's a 1964 derailment down in the steepest, deepest canyon of this line. The main cargo was refrigerated semi trailers from the Coors beer factory in Colorado. The trailers still have the Coors logos on them and if your bold enough to scrabble down the canyon You can find empty dented Coors cans.

With Rock falls , and dodgy railroad tracks, iffy points or as you say switches " you thought it was a good idea to take " children up there " without any hard hats " ". Seems someone has more rail in their head than brain cells ".one land slip, or a small stone , could kill anyone there with that loco weight, as well. Unbelievable "" your all insane.

I did learn that that is a Standard Gauge line. Normally, narrow gauge lines go up mountains.
